2019 Pembrokeshire County Show, in Review

Last week saw the 2019 Pembrokeshire County Show take place at the Withybush Showground in Haverfordwest! A fun-packed 3 day show with something to keep the whole family entertained, the Pembrokeshire County Show is a key date in the diary here at Puffin Produce.

This year was the 10th year that Puffin Produce have sponsored the Pembrokeshire County Show, and it’s something we’re really proud to be a part of. In the video below Megan Tye, Marketing Manager at Puffin Produce, explains why we’re proud to sponsor the event and what visitors could expect from the Puffin Produce stand this year…

Talking to consumers…

Blas y Tir Pembrokeshire County Show 2019 2

This year the Puffin Produce stand looked very different as the new Blas y Tir branding took centre stage. The new look, which can be seen on our Blas y Tir Pembrokeshire Earlies 1kg bag packaging available in supermarkets throughout Wales, was received with great enthusiasm by visitors to the stand. Consumers commented on how fresh the new branding looked and enjoyed trying to work out the location of our ‘featured field’ on the front of our packaging (it’s St. Brides Bay in Pembrokeshire by the way!).

Pembrokeshire County Show 2019

As well as trying our delicious free samples of Pembrokeshire Earlies served simply boiled with Welsh butter & fresh mint, visitors to the Puffin Produce stand could also get their hands on a Blas y Tir goodie bag by taking part in our Ring Toss Carnival game! A big hit amongst adults and children alike, visitors could win anything from sweets and toys up to the top prize of a goodie bag containing a bag of our award-winning Blas y Tir Pembrokeshire Earlies!

Super Simple Curry Low Res

As part of our consumer-facing activities, there was also a produce display on our stand and Megan from Puffin Produce had the pleasure of undertaking cooking demonstrations in the main food tent, organised by local family butcher Prendergast Butchers. Armed with par-boiled Pembrokeshire Earlies, Megan made a family-favourite Cheesy Garlic Potatoes and a Super Simple Curry (with added shredded chicken) within half an hour in front of a packed crowd. You can find the full recipes on our Blas y Tir website, as well as many other recipes for you to try: Cheesy Garlic Potatoes & Super Simple Curry.

Pembrokeshire County Show 2019 5Meeting with our growers…

The Pembrokeshire County Show is also a key event for us to catch up with our growers and say a big ‘thank you’ to them for continuing to support Puffin. As usual, the Wednesday at the show saw Puffin hold the annual Puffin Lunch at the Pembrokeshire County Show, this time serving freshly made pizza and homemade individual desserts. We were delighted to see most of our growers on the stand, with everyone tucking into a few slices of pizza whilst discussing how this year’s planting and harvesting is going, as well as sharing best-practice. As a grower-owned business our growers are at the centre of everything we do, and it’s always a pleasure to share a drink and have a catch up with the whole team!

Thank you…

Thank you to everyone who popped by the stand for your continued support. We’re privileged to be able to be such a big part of the local community and agricultural community and look forward to continuing to support the show for many years to come. Only 12 months until the next show now… we’d best get planning!
