Blas y Tir brings Open Farm Sunday to Pembrokeshire
Blas y Tir, in conjunction with Farms for City Children and AHDB Potatoes are bringing Open Farm Sunday to Pembrokeshire on Sunday 5th June 2016 from 10am – 4pm at Lower Treginnis Farm near St Davids (SA62 6RS).
This free event sees Puffin’s brand ‘Blas y Tir’ working with charity Farms for City Children to bring Open Farm Sunday to Pembrokeshire for the first time! Open Farm Sunday is a national event and allows children throughout Wales and the rest of the UK to visit lots of different farms and find out more about the animals, crops and machinery involved with sustainable farming in the UK.
The event is a chance for consumers to find out more about commercial potato farming in Pembrokeshire and even pick their own award-winning Pembrokeshire Early potatoes! From Lower Treginnis farm there will be the ‘Pure Pembrokeshire Gold Treasure Trail’, leading consumers to visit commercial potato farmer Robin Elliot.
Robin has been growing award-winning potatoes for over 50 years, and has been working with Puffin since the mid 80’s. With fields full of delicate Pembrokeshire Earlies overlooking the deep blue sea and Pembrokeshire coastline, visitors can find out more about how Robin grows these Protected Geographical Indicator Status (PGI status) Pembrokeshire Earlies on a commercial scale, and can even pick their own when back at Lower Treginnis farm.
AHDB Potatoes will be there, bringing along their educational van to talk to families about potatoes, including all the different varieties available, and the nutritional benefits, as well as the benefits of buying local potatoes.
Lower Treginnis farm also has a selection of animal ready to meet visitors, including goats, pigs, chickens, donkeys and horses. Visitors are encouraged to take their time to explore the farm, and beyond, at their own pace. There are also a range of timetabled activities throughout the day to entertain families, such as milking the goats, bottle-feeding the kid goats and holding some of the newly-born chicks.
Working together, Blas y Tir and Farms for City Children will run Open Farm Sunday on Sunday 5th June 2016 from 10am – 4pm at Lower Treginnis Farm (SA62 6RS).
